Talkin' 'Bout The Test....yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay :( Didn't We Just Have One So Why Another One Next Week? ):

Today's class was (no offense) really boring especially when it was last mod. I understand and was grateful that Mr. Schick went over our next test with us which will be some time next week... :( so hoorah! another test. Yea so I understand he was trying to help us and all but it is too late in the day for me to pay attention to every little thing he said about the test. Really the only interesting thing about today's class was that we had a shadow who was a freshmen on an online school which is pretty  cool in my opinion because she doesn't have to leave home to go to school and learn in a boring environment where I can learn in my own environment. We had Claus return for like the first five minutes before class officially started before he got kicked out by our teacher who, I guess, doesn't like foreign exchange students from Uzbekistan...disappointing. Yea so class was pretty boring today.

A Day For Makeup Work

Today in Human Geography we had a guest student named Claus and he came from Uzbekistan and his mom is an Uzbek woman and his dad is a Russian man. I worked on the Factbook assignment we had over the weekend because mine decided not to let me publish my one and decided to delete it instead so I got super duper unhappy yesterday when I saw that and I talked to Mr. Schick. He thought I was ticked off at him, but I was mainly ticked off at myself for not realizing that I hadn't pressed the right button and could've caught that mistake. So after I finished the Factbook assignment, I MADE SURE THAT IT WAS ON MY BLOG AND PUBLISHED and it was so hopefully I get a good grade :) Yea, so the class was fun...I think, maybe...I mean, at least we didn't have to do much work or take notes.

The World Factbook

The 1st fact (Japan) that I found one fact out about Japan and how their Population Growth Rate is -0.21% and that they're two hundred eleventh in the world for Population Growth Rate and how it's not last place in the world and that there are more countries that have a lower growth rate. So does this mean that more people are dying then being born? Yes because there are more older population than younger so the older people will die more than the lower amount of young people having kids.

The 2nd fact (United States) that I found is 46.5% of people in the United States are Protestants. I found this interesting because I've only known one Protestant which was my math teacher who I had from fifth grade to eighth grade. I also thought it wasn't going to be that large of an amount for any type of religion in the United States since we have such a diversity of races and cultures here.

The 3rd fact (United States) that I found is that the life expectancy for newborns as of 2017 is 80 years old. I found it interesting because I know that a lot more young people seem to die from suicide or drug addictions so it seems kind of bizarre to me.

The 4th fact (United States) I found it interesting that we have a lower obesity rate than an Nauru which is an island near Australia and the Philippines. I just figure since we have a lot of fast food restaurants we'd be up in the top five, but apparently some south Asian island isomer obese than Americans.

The 5th fact (world) is that Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language with a 12.3% of people speaking it across the world. I found it interesting because English is only 5.1% and that English isn't the most common. I especially wouldn't think that if English wasn't then maybe Spanish or French or German, but not Mandarin Chinese. So I found that that was different than I had expected.

Transcribing Notes . . . Again

Why Do People Migrate?
Push Forces
- Civil War
- Environmental Degradation
- Unemployment Or Underemployment
Religious Or Ethnic Persecution

Pull Forces
- Better Economic Opportunity
- Better Health Services
- Religious Freedom
- Political Freedom

Total Fertility Rate (TFR)
- Total Fertility Rate is the average number of children born per woman
- For a population to remain the same the total fertility rate must be 2.1
- Higher than 2.1 then the population rises
- Lower than 2.1 then the population falls
- The World Total Fertility Rate is 2.42 whereas last year it was 2.54
- The United States Total Fertility Rate is 2.01 whereas last year it was 2.06 since it is a developed nation
- The Total Fertility Rate of Nigeria is 6.89 since it's a developing nation unlike The United States because The United States is already a developed nation
- The Total Fertility Rate of Japan is 1.40 because they are a developed nation, but also have an older age in their people

Transcribing Notes Because I Don't Remember Class That Well

Measuring Population
     - Crude Birth Rate is the number of births per one thousand of the population.
     - Crude Death Rate is the number of deaths per one thousand of the population.
     - Rate Of Natural Increase (RNI) is produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate which gives us the annual natural growth rate in percent form for the country or region.

Migration
     - Net Migration Rate is the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year.
     - an excess of persons entering the country in net migration is written as a positive number such as Canada has 5.65 migrants per one thousand of the population and the U.S. has 2.45 per one thousand of the population.
     - an excess of persons leaving a country is net emigration which is written as a negative number such as Mexico has -1.68 migrants per one thousand of the population.

Population & Settlement

So today we started a new chapter on settlement. We began class with prayer and pledge because we had human geography first mod. We got new key issues for the chapter; Where is the world's population distributed? why is global population increasing? why does population growth vary among regions? and why do some regions face health threats? We learned how there are 7.5 billion people living on Earth and that that's increasing by 73 million per year (200,000 a day - 8,377 per hour - 149 per minute - 2.5 per second). We learned that 90% of Earth's population growth takes place in the developing countries such as Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America. We saw that in 1804 the population reached its first billion where we later came two billion people in 1927, three billion in 1960, four billion in 1974, five billion in 1987, six billion in 1999, and seven billion in 2011.

Test Day

Today we took our test for most of the period. We started off by talking about the test before and got into meeting today's shadow, Carly, and everyone started singing the iCarly theme song for no reason what-so-ever. I feel like I did pretty good on the test since I've been studying since Sunday so I think I did pretty good. I thought the time zone ones were easy but people complained about them afterwards so I really don't know anymore, I like doing the time zones cause it is fairly easy. I'd rather do time zones than learn about Socrates, but I do like learning about Athens and Greece and especially their mythology. I was scared once I saw the bubble sheet full of one hundred of them and panicked, but thankfully it was only thirty questions (thirty really easy ones). It was easier than our last test by far.

Review Day

Today all we did was review. No really, that was it. We talked about the stuff the test tomorrow would be on, and spent a fair share of the class talking about time zones. Not sure why people would have trouble with time zones when it's basic methane Mr. Schick told us the test is gonna be "open-map", but I guess some people do have trouble. I find time zones fairly easy, but knowing now that I just said this I've probably jinxed myself for those questions on the test, crap! I never really got time zones because the time zones take-up big areas and won't the spread over that space have times that are like a few minutes ahead of that place, so it just doesn't make sense to me unless you're comparing your place to that of another country on a different continent on the opposite side of the world. But what am I gonna do about that? Not a freaking thing.

What do you predict the future will be like when you are Mr. Schick's age?

I predict the future will be more of what you see when you read or watch a science fiction or fantasy novel where everything is perfect. Kind of like a utopia except a place where we are still working to improve. I imagine that scientists will have discovered superhuman traits that could be given to people to help them live longer or have enhanced strength or speed, as Stephen Hawking noted that that would be the cause of our extinction before he died. I imagine we'll have flying cars and mobile homes (literally, like house that can fly if you want to go somewhere). I also can see that there will be a government like the one we have today and laws that have been made about new inventions. I imagine that we'll also have colonies on Mars and maybe other planets and we could move there if we see our end on Earth coming. I can also picture more solar powered things because we'll probably be running out of oil and fuel. But I can see it being a more fun life and happy life because with technology it can help you in so many ways.

Progression Time

Today's class we had Olivia as our teacher again from the last class we had the other day. We learned about Globalization in Economy and how companies don't have headquarters here in the U.S. because it cost too much to pay the workers where as in India or China or somewhere else is a lot cheaper to pay workers by a significant amount so it wouldn't cost as much as paying workers in the U.S. But we talked about the different things in our world that have to do with globalization such as McDonald's and websites and social media and GPS and other things. We got to the third key issue out of the four in Power Point so we're getting close to being ready for our chapter test which I noticed was on the calendar for October 19. We got through about four slides so we did progress some I just feel like the Power Point has taken years to do so I'll be glad when we get have a test and move onto something else.

The Florida Man

Today wasn't aigret of a class as Thursday but we still had a couple rounds of laughs today. We started out with a POP quiz and of course most of us knew we weren't prepared for it, me included. I think I had gotten like six out of ten, so yay, at least it isn't a big grade to pull my total grade down. We finished the quiz and got right back to our Power Point. We talked about the lesson Patrick had given us, except in different words and detail from Mr. Schick. We progressed a slide or two on it and we talked about the different regions. This then took us into talking about newspapers and how Patrick brought up The Florida Man on headlines saying some ridiculous crap like "Florida Man Kidnaps Local Dog To Find Cure For Cancer" or some other weird "report". Today's period felt pretty short to me, which is a shame because it's always fun.

Mr. Patrick

Today's class is probably my favorite. We got a new teacher whose name is Patrick and a new student whose name is Robert Schick. Robert stole someone's notebook to write his notes in. When we got our new teacher we continued the Power Point but he didn't seem to know what any of the things on the slide meant so he didn't seem qualified. And then Robert was asking like some very detailed and vivid questions making him seem like he should be in AP Human Geography. As the lesson with our new teacher progressed Austin threw a paper airplane at the new teacher. The paper airplane had a note written on it so Austin was asked to come up and read it to the class. It had one word written on it, 'Oof.' When that incident was over we did more of the Power Point and then Robert asked the teacher if he could be the teacher yet because I guess Robert thinks he's the teacher. So Patrick said no and Robert had to rephrase that into a command, so by the end of class we had Mr. Schick back.

Alexa

So today we began with continuing the Power Point on maps and we discussed GPS. We talked about how it is cool that it can detect where you are and your exact position on Earth. But then we got into talking about how it could be bad such as if you wanted to get to a Rite Aid and you were far away from home and you needed to figure out where one is. So, you pull outpour phone's GPS or GPS in your car and type in Rite Aid. It'll then ask you if you want your location to be shared with Rite Aid to show you nearby locations. Then we got into talking about Alexa and how it could be recording your everyday conversations with your family ad relatives and saving them into files for people to hack into. But of course I don't know which to believe, I feel like since I trust the company that makes the Alexa, I can trust that they aren't doing this shady stuff, but then again this is the twenty-first century so this isn't uncommon to be happening.

More Maps

So yesterday's class was like most of the ones we've had lately. We first got our tests back (finally), and were introduced to Mr. Schick's system where he rings a bell once if you got a ninety percent to a ninety-nine percent, and if you got a hundred percent on it, you'd get two rings on the bell. I got a ring because I got a ninety-eight percent, so close to a hundred. Then we started doing more maps where we had to label a bunch of different cities all over the world including, London, Berlin, San Francisco, Chicago, and John Carroll. We started the three but didn't end up finishing so I'm sure that's what we'll do today. So in yesterday's class we also handsome weird discussions but any conversation that the honors class has, it's always a good one, so we always leave the class with a smile on our face or chuckling to what we had talked about.

Critiquing The Class

I thought this semester class was really fun (though I did not talk much). Mr. Schick is one of my favorite teachers this (along with Mr. Hu...
